Am I eligible for Home Modification and Maintenance services?
You are eligible if you are:
  • A frail aged person or a person with a disability and
  • You live in the Great Lakes region and
  • You wish to continue to live at home but are experiencing difficulties which are making you feel less confident about your ability to live at home.
Important: Non pensioners can also access our services and will receive reduced builder fees.


What other services are available for me?
We work closely with other Community Care Services (HACC) to make sure our customers get the services they require to live at home. We can refer you to other HACC services or give you information on these services.

Is it essential to have an Occupational Therapist's referral to access Home Modification and Maintenance's services?
Yes.


Will I have to pay for the services I receive from Home Modification and Maintenance?
Yes - Our clients pay fees, which are a contribution toward the services they receive. Our staff will provide information about what you will need to contribute. The remaining costs are shared between the NSW and Federal Governments Home and Community Care program.


Can Home Modification and Maintenance arrange one off jobs like house cleaning, window cleaning, mowing, changing lightbulbs or fixing taps?
Yes. We can arrange housecleaning for you with our housekeeping service, Helping Hands.

Does Home Modification and Maintenance offer ongoing garden or lawn maintenance?
Yes. Under certain circumstances. Please contact the Coordinator.


What is the usual waiting time for services?
Usually 2-4 weeks however it is dependant on the complexity of the job.


What happens if I am not home for my service?
If you know in advance that you will not be home you must let your Coordinator know as soon as possible so that you will not incur a service fee.


How do I know that the staff coming into my home can be trusted?
We are committed to providing you with a high standard of service. In addition to our own rigorous recruitment process, all staff undergo a thorough criminal history check.


What happens if I want an extra task done on the day of my service?
This can be arranged if you contact the Coordinator.


Is Home Modification and Maintenance the only local agency that can help with home modifications and maintenance for the elderly/those with disabilities?
No. A number of local builders / handymen are available. Home Modification and Maintenance specialises in this area and understands the needs of the frail aged and disabled and provides subsidised rates.


What are my rights?
We are Home and Community Care (HACC) providers, and in dealing with us, you have a right to:
  • respect of your human worth, dignity and privacy
  • be assessed for access to service without discrimination
  • be informed about available services
  • choose from available alternatives
  • pursue any complaint about service provision without retribution
  • involve an advocate of your choice



What are my responsibilities?
It is your responsibility to treat our staff with dignity and respect. You must maintain a safe working environment, which complies with occupational health and safety legislative requirements. You are expected to pay the agreed amount for our services and advise us if you cannot make your scheduled appointment.
